Naked Attraction: The Best High Jewellery of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival
This year’s Cannes Film Festival kicked off with a not-so-subtle change to the official dress code banning ‘naked’ dresses and voluminous ballgowns. Fortunately, this did little to change the extravagance of the occasion or its penchant for high jewellery from world-leading brands, especially Chopard, Boucheron, Messika and Pomellato. Here’s a rundown of some of the best Cannes jewellery looks from the 78th annual festival (May 13-24), including the likes of Dakota Johnson, Angelina Jolie, and Natalie Portman, who all make striking jewellery the star of their ensembles.
The first thing to know about Cannes is that it’s not just one thing. There are the big, extravagant red carpet events and movie screenings, but there are also the midday press conferences, the brand-led after parties, and the collaborative events that capitalise upon the glitz of Cannes to promote good causes and new launches. Celebrities might attend three or more of these events, each time wearing an entirely different outfit, so there are an endless number of looks to cover. As high jewellery lovers, we tend to gravitate towards the bigger and more ostentatious presentations of diamonds and coloured gemstones. However, there are countless fine jewellery looks we could mention too. Our advice would be to devour these bold looks and then continue to devour the Cannes jewellery content you’ll find online… there’s just so much to discover.
Of course, we can’t discuss the Cannes Film Festival without mentioning Chopard, which has been designing the Palme D’Or trophy for nearly 30 years. Chopard co-president and artistic director, Caroline Scheufele, is known for pulling out all the stops for the festival, including hosting the Chopard Universe Dinner and the Trophée Chopard prize-giving event. Among all this finery are a handful of exceptional looks we need to spotlight.
Firstly, look to Bella Hadid at the Cannes Opening Ceremony wearing a pair of Chopard earrings set with emeralds weighing 118.68 carats! These earrings hail from the aptly named Red Carpet collection and also feature 10.31 carats of diamonds, set in 18k white gold. She also wore two high jewellery rings for the occasion, including one with a 12.15 carat heart-shaped diamond and another featuring a 15.01 carat emerald-cut diamond, both set in 18k white gold.

The sheer number of Chopard looks at this year’s Festival means it’s impossible to mention them all, but here are some more favourites: Angelina Jolie in an elegant yellow and white diamond necklace; Carla Bruni in a white diamond pendant from the Precious Lace collection adorned with a fancy yellow diamond centre stone, and Eva Longoria in a gorgeous necklace with amethyst and kunzite briolettes that danced around her neck. Another highlight was Halle Berry, who attended the Trophée Chopard ceremony wearing a brand new piece of high jewellery – a coiling serpent pendant with 87 carats of diamonds and 12 carats of emeralds, requiring more than 900 hours of craftsmanship.
Big gems weren’t solely the domain of Chopard this year, though. Some great Cannes jewellery looks emerged from other houses too, including Russian model Irina Shayk wearing a stunning pair of Anita Diamonds earrings with 60 carat pear-shaped deep brown-yellow diamond drops and seven carats of white diamonds. Yes, you read that right, 67 carats per ear! She also wore two 15-carat diamond rings, one on each hand, for good measure. Another highlight was actress Julia Garner, who paired her Gucci gown with a pair of Pasquale Bruni Ghirlanda Atelier morganite drop earrings, set with white and grey diamonds, plus a one-of-a-kind Vento Atelier ring. The combination of pink and brown is an absolute dream! And speaking of Pasquale Bruni, model Joan Smalls looked sensational in a choker necklace from the Heart to Earth High Jewellery collection, set with rubies, rubellite and white diamonds, alongside a matching pair of rubellite and ruby earrings.

This has also been an incredible Cannes Film Festival for Boucheron, which showcased its Untamed Nature High Jewellery collection on an array of famous faces. Mina of girlband TWICE was spotted wearing a sensational Rosier Question Mark necklace and pendant earrings; Thai actress and model Araya Hargate wore the Airelles necklace and the Lierre de Paris earrings; actor Rupert Friend wore the Roseau brooch, and Somali model Rawdah Mohamed wore the beautiful Lierre de Paris brooch elegantly pinned to her hijab paired with a pink morganite, diamond and sapphire Hopi ring.
However, of all the celebrities to wear Boucheron, it was American actress Dakota Johnson who blazed the brightest trail. Over three distinctive Cannes jewellery looks, she showcased multiple facets of the brand’s high jewellery prowess, including the Avoine diamond head jewel, the Laurier pendant earrings, the Vendôme Liseré stud earrings, the Vendôme Liseré ring, and the Serpent Bohème Solarité hoop earrings. Even Rihanna, Julianne Moore and Daisy Edgar-Jones couldn’t knock her Dakota off the Boucheron high jewellery top spot, despite wearing some truly impressive pieces.
If statement earrings are your thing, look to Jennifer Lawrence in a fantastic double sweep of Ana Khouri diamond earrings at the screening of ‘Die, My Love’ and Emma Stone in the Louis Vuitton Seduction earrings with octagonal-shaped emeralds. Elsewhere, Chinese actress Zhou Ye looked phenomenal in the Tasaki Harmonie necklace from the Nouvelle Ère High Jewellery collection; Natalie Portman was the epitome of grace in a Tiffany & Co. Blue Book necklace (a reimagined creation from the house’s 1950s archives) with 90 carats of diamonds; Aishwarya Rai looked majestic in a suite of pear-shaped rubies from Manish Malhotra Jewellery, and Angela Bassett wowed in a Midnight Sun High Jewellery set by Messika.
Big gemstones were everywhere this year, which is amazing to see. Salma Hayek attended the Kering 2025 Women in Motion Awards (hosted during the Cannes Film Festival) wearing what appears to be a giant Paraiba tourmaline pendant by Gucci High Jewellery. A special mention must also go to model Alessandra Ambrosio who flew the flag for Pomellato throughout this year’s event. On one occasion she wore the Fortezza choker and earrings from the Ode to Milan High Jewellery collection, complete with reverse-set malachites, emeralds, black ceramic and rose gold. On another, she wowed in a green Zuhair Murad gown and a major piece from the brand’s new Assimetrico Tanzanite collection - a 55.96 carat tanzanite, surrounded by over 2,800 diamonds in yellow gold.
Finally, would it be Cannes without another Isabeli Fontana-Elsa Jin collaboration? For 2025, the Brazilian model wore an art piece by the designer called ‘Woman’ featuring 240 carats of natural diamonds and five emeralds weighing almost 79 carats. It’s the size and scale here that really grabs attention, so much so that I am itching to see the piece in person.

So, what are your favourite Cannes jewellery looks of this year’s Cannes Film Festival? If the red-carpet stylists are to be believed, anything less than 20 carats is simply too small and too dainty for the French Riviera! Not that we are complaining, when it comes to minerals bigger often means better.
