Flip the Script: Meet the Jewellers Creating Luxury Customised Watches
Jewellery designers are increasingly turning their artistic talents to the world of horology, customising luxury watches with unique embellishments that carry their personal style signatures. From reimagined Rolexes to gemstone-studded bezels, discover how jewellers are making their mark on the world of timepieces.
Luxury jewellery and watchmaking have long intersected, but a new trend is bringing the two crafts closer than ever as jewellery designers set themselves the challenge of embellishing timepieces with their distinctive artistic signatures. Take Jacquie Aiche, for example, whose journey to customised watches began with her own vintage timepiece. "I had the vision to recreate the face [of the watch] with our signature Tribe Eye," says Aiche, referring to her take on the classic evil eye motif, which she often uses in her jewellery collections, usually set with diamonds. "It became something beyond what I ever imagined." After sharing her work, the reaction from her fan base was instantly enthusiastic. Aiche started exploring the idea further by giving vintage Rolex watches the Jacquie Aiche treatment, adding illustrations of evil eyes or mythical thunderbirds to the dials, or introducing gemstone indices.
