Tailored Perfection: The Best Jewellery Looks of the Met Gala 2025
Not since 2003 has a Met Gala theme focused exclusively on menswear, so we had high hopes for this year’s attendees demonstrating the best of tailored suiting adorned with high jewels. Fortunately, they did not disappoint! A plethora of famous faces, including Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, and Lewis Hamilton, tapped into the concept behind the Spring 2025 Costume Institute exhibition – Superfine: Tailoring Black Style – to reexamine Black dandyism through a modern lens. The results are eye-catching and fascinating, to say the least. Let’s take a closer look at some of the best ensembles of the evening…
Before we dive into the Met Gala jewellery, let’s examine this year’s themes. As you may know, the Met Gala is a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and its annual spring exhibition. For 2025, the focus is on the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism, which is explained in more depth in this great article by Vogue. The Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibition will examine the importance of clothing and style in the formation of black identities in the Atlantic diaspora, especially during the Harlem Renaissance of the early 20th century.
Where it can occasionally be confusing is that this is not necessarily the theme of the Met Gala! Think of the exhibition as the context and the Met Gala theme as the dress code. This year, guests were instructed to dress within the concept of ‘Tailored for You’, which is clearly quite open to interpretation. Leading the charge are the Met Gala co-chairs – Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Lebron James – who work alongside Anna Wintour to ‘set the tone’ for the event.

Best Met Gala Jewellery: Lively Lapels
These gents certainly turned heads on the night, with the vast majority proving that lapel brooches are cool again. Lewis Hamilton kickstarted the proceedings in a custom Wales Bonner white suit with diamond stud earrings and a 1980s multi-coloured diamond brooch on his beret, provided by Briony Raymond. Next, A$AP Rocky arrived without his wife Rihanna (who arrived fashionably five hours late!) wearing a sensational necklace by Bvlgari and carrying a diamond-encrusted Briony Raymond umbrella. This particular necklace hails from the yet-to-be-unveiled Bvlgari Polychroma High Jewellery collection (more details on this below) with a 12.29-carat pear-shaped ruby drop and more than 46 carats of diamonds. He complemented the look with a Bvlgari High Jewellery brooch with a 15.34-carat cushion-cut peridot, round diamonds, buff-top rubellites, and diamonds.

Elsewhere, Regé-Jean Page made a statement in a full red suit, complete with a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. Fleurage brooch featuring a rubellite of over 3 carats in 18k gold and platinum. It’s safe to say that the Jean Schlumberger archive proved popular at the Met Gala, with Chance the Rapper also wearing not one but four Jean Schlumberger lapel adornments, including the Daisy Bud brooch with 3-carats of rubellites and diamonds, the Starlight brooch with an Imperial topaz over 25 carats, and the Peapod brooch with cultured pearls.
More brooch-heavy looks were presented by Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin, actor Brian Tyree Henry in David Yurman and Elizabeth Gage, and Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan, who wowed in layered gems by Sabyasachi. His custom-made pieces included necklaces, rings, and brooches, all complemented The Bengal Tiger Head Cane, crafted in 18k gold, with tourmalines, sapphires, old mine-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds.
Best Met Gala Jewellery: Tailored Ladies
As predicted, women also opted for tailored, androgynous suiting, including rapper Doechii who wore a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. Starlight brooch set with a fancy intense yellow diamond over 12 carats. Actress Sarah Snook ran with the theme, too, wearing an incredible variety of lapel pins and natural diamond brooches by Rahaminov Diamonds and Saidian Vintage Jewels. Other highlights include actress Kara Young in a vintage diamond brooch with rose-cut diamonds, sourced by Selim Mouzannar; singer and actress Teyana Taylor in an incredible bib necklace, brooches, lapel chains and waist chains by David Yurman; actress Aimee Lou Wood in a look by Ahluwalia and a floral, all-diamond brooch by Cartier, and actress Monica Barbaro in a Bvlgari Monete High Jewellery brooch with a silver coin, round diamonds, tapered diamonds and pavé -set diamonds in 18k rose gold.
As predicted, Zendaya caused quite a stir with her sleek and sophisticated Louis Vuitton suit – pristine in white with a matching hat – accessorised with a Bvlgari High Jewellery Serpenti brooch with buff-top emeralds and 4.33 carats of pavé-set diamonds. What’s quirky is the placement of the brooch, as rather than being on her lapel, she chose to affix it to the back of her suit, just below the centre point of her collar. She completed the paired-back styling with a pair of yellow diamond stud earrings, a diamond cocktail ring and her much-talked-about Jessica McCormack engagement ring.

Best Met Gala Jewellery: Stand-Out Style
Returning to the men for a second, there were so many more looks to rave about. It was interesting to see playwright and actor Jeremy O. Harris wearing a custom-made ring by Benjamin Hawkins, set with a 2.2-carat peachy brown pear-shaped diamond and a miniature enamel portrait in a diamond frame. Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh honoured Punjabi royalty with his incredible ensemble, which included layers and layers of diamond and coloured gemstone necklaces by Golecha Jewels in an echo of Maharajahs past. Lastly, spare a thought for actor Damson Idris, who turned up in a full F1 racing suit only to rip it off and reveal a burgundy suit beneath, complete with a gorgeous 11-carat emerald, tourmaline and favourite lapel pin and chain. We later discovered that the star designed this piece himself for his newly-formed brand DIDRIS, which made its official debut at the Met Gala… not a bad way to start!

It was clear that Colman Domingo was going to do something exciting for the big night, especially as a co-host. He arrived on the red carpet in custom Valentino, complete with an ear climber and the Boucheron Iceberg necklace from the Or Bleu High Jewellery collection from 2024. He added a few extra Boucheron pieces to the mix, too, including the New Padma Cristal ring from the Histoire de Style, New Maharajahs High Jewellery collection and a Plume de Paon ring with a 34.01-carat cushion-cut rubellite.
Best Met Gala Jewellery: Creative Colours
The Met Gala 2025 was a big night for Bvlgari, which used the occasion to provide a sneak peek of its new Polychroma High Jewellery collection (due to launch officially later this month). Within this collection are five ‘Gallery of Wonders’ creations, two of which were worn at the Met Gala by brand ambassadors Anne Hathaway and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The former chose the Cosmic Vault necklace, set with a 123.35-carat sugarloaf sapphire, 331 buff-top sapphires of 26.91 carats, 30 pear-cut diamonds of 16.49 carats and further diamonds weighing in the region of 70 carats! In contrast, Priyanka Chopra Jonas combined a polka dot skirt-suit with The Magnus Emerald necklace, set with a 241.04-carat octagonal-shaped emerald, buff-top emeralds and diamonds. This is the largest faceted stone ever set by the brand, so we can’t wait to see it up close and in more detail. Not satisfied with this beryl, the star added another in the form of the Polychroma High Jewellery ring with a cushion-cut emerald of 14.88 carats.

More colourful looks were presented by the likes of tennis star Serena Williams, who opted for an Asscher-cut green amethyst ring and a matching pear-shaped green amethyst ring by Mateo New York. We also loved the Tiffany & Co. necklaces worn by actress Gabrielle Union-Wade and singer Rosé, the former set with 51 carats of red spinels and diamonds and the latter featuring an unenhanced sapphire of over 14 carats, both from the 2024 Blue Book Collection. Finally, spare a glance at the Pasquale Bruni Goddess Garden collier necklace worn by singer Shakira. The star of the show is a large pear-shaped morganite drop, which perfectly matched the morganites in her custom-made white and rose gold cufflinks and the bright pink of her gown by Prabal Gurung.
Best Met Gala Jewellery: Exceptional Neckwear
Necklaces were a dominating force at this year’s event, but it was the specific placement that seemed to matter most. Think not quite high enough on the neck to be a choker, but no lower than the collarbone. Examples include actress Coco Jones in a look by Manish Malhotra, complete with an elaborate necklace, actress Laura Harrier in the Buccellati Rete con Perle necklace in 18k gold, and Miley Cyrus in golden Cartier necklaces.

Other stars highlighted the trend for swags and layers of diamonds, notably Kim Kardashian in a Moussaieff necklace and her sister Kendall Jenner in a Chopard necklace with a 12.37-carat diamond solitaire and a further 76.11 carats of white gems. More diamond looks that caught our attention were Met Gala chair and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour wearing an antique Victorian rivière necklace from Briony Raymond, totalling 45 carats; Nicole Scherzinger in jewels by Belperron, Fred Leighton and Kwiat; singer Ciara in diamonds by Lorraine Schwartz; Wicked star Cynthia Erivo in an ear cuff and rings by Bucherer Fine Jewellery, and Halle Berry in pieces by Cartier. Another highlight was basketball star Angel Reese, who wore over 107 carats of Graff High Jewellery, including a pair of earrings with fancy intense yellow pear-shaped diamonds (for a total weight of 27.32 carats), a fancy yellow emerald-cut diamond ring with pear-shaped white diamond shoulders (29.59 carats), another fancy intense yellow cushion-cut ring of 25.55 carats, and a yellow and white diamond emerald-cut line bracelet for 14.81 carats. And we could go on and on… Miranda Kerr in Tiffany & Co., Dua Lipa in head-to-toe Chanel, and Indian businesswoman Isha Ambani wearing a 481-carat diamond cascade from her own personal collection!
A few more looks of note were worn by Nicole Kidman, who opted for custom Balenciaga and accessories from Cindy Chao The Art Jewel’s White Label collection. Our favourites are the sculptural Four Seasons Foliage earrings and the sleek Four Seasons Branch bangle, coupled with the Emerald Flora ring for a pop of colour. We also did a double-take when model and TV presenter Heidi Klum appeared wearing an oval-shaped natural diamond by Lorraine Schwartz. The large gem was suspended on an invisible string, so it appeared to be simply floating at the perfect spot on her neck.

Let’s Not Forget…
Articles like this inevitably leave some key looks out; there’s simply no space to include them all. However, there are a handful of ‘Superfine’ ensembles we should mention before bringing this year’s Met Gala coverage to a close. Legendary singer Lauryn Hill wore pieces by British-Ghanaian jeweller Emefa Cole, which are crafted in Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold, while actress Taraji P. Henson looked perfectly on theme in Buccellati cocktail earrings, a brooch with 64 rose-cut diamonds and Tahitian pearls, and a cocktail ring with a faceted heliodor. Actress Ayo Edebiri opted for custom Ferragamo, draped in glass beads that reminded us of strands of precious coral dangling from her dress. The finishing touches were whimsical brooches by Cartier. We were also wowed by model Sora Choi, whose artistic headdress, earrings, necklace and rings were dripping in diamonds and provided a real point of difference on the night.
Finally, fashion renegade Doja Cat pulled out all the stops once again (remember when she wore full cat prosthetics to honour Karl Lagerfeld!), this time in custom Marc Jacobs and jewels by David Webb. Her look incorporated the Enamel Paper Clip necklace with faceted aquamarines, diamonds and black enamel, the Rose brooch with pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds, the Caviar ring with cabochon turquoise and emeralds, the Carved Ruby Leaf ring with diamonds, the Trestle ring with a square-cut rubellite, the Zebra Stripe Oval Buckle ring with diamonds and multi-coloured enamel, and a ring with carved rock crystal and emeralds. As they say, go big or go home!

So, what was your favourite look of the night? Personally, I love the influence that traditional notions of menswear can have on women and how they perceive both clothes and jewellery. However, it must be said that this year’s Met Gala stars were the men who embraced the idea of Black dandyism and gravitated towards high jewels in ways we haven’t seen before. Long may this continue on the red carpet!
