Double Vision: The Art and Allure of Reversible Jewellery
With versatility driving today’s jewellery trends, reversible designs are enjoying a quiet resurgence. These dual-sided pieces combine material innovation with mechanical ingenuity, as a new wave of designers explores how a single jewel can tell more than one story. From transformable lockets to rotating rings and earrings that change with a flip, these reversible jewellery creations reflect a growing desire for multi-dimensional design.
“From the beginning, we’ve been passionate about creating versatile jewellery that empowers women to express themselves in multiple ways,” says Emily Cohen, co-founder of Three Stories, a Newport Beach-based jewellery label whose very ethos is built on adaptability. Its Wise Owl locket pendant, a double-sided piece in 14k yellow gold, adorned with white diamonds, blue sapphires and emeralds, epitomises this philosophy. A former winner of the Couture Design Award in the ‘Under $10K Retail’ category, the owl - a symbol of wisdom and intuition - features a rotating belly that reveals either an Australian opal or a hidden locket that opens to unveil a tree of life motif with the phrase ‘Wisdom’ inscribed within.
