8 Women, 8 Jewels: Female Designers Share their Signatures for International Women’s Day

March 7, 2025

A big part of becoming a successful fine jewellery designer is discovering the signature style that makes you unique. In my experience of interviewing countless jewellery artists, the revelation of a design DNA doesn't arrive overnight. In fact, it can take many years of hard work and experimentation to arrive at the aesthetic that distinguishes a designer's creative voice. In honour of International Women's Day 2025, which has the theme #AccelerateAction, we reached out to eight female designers and asked them to share the piece that best exemplifies their design style. From cocktail rings to sensational necklaces, the creations featured below demonstrate the diversity, ingenuity, and talents of women from across the globe.

It's hard to believe that the first International Women's Day took place in 1911, which was long before most women were given the right to vote! Since then, the initiative has spotlighted female achievements while also acknowledging the challenges that still remain, such as bias, stereotypes, violence, and pay disparity. As the KaterinaPerez.com team is made up entirely of women, it just didn't seem right to let Saturday, March 8, 2025, roll past without recognising the incredible talents of our jewellery community. We settled on the concept of 'having a voice' and how this is expressed through three-dimensional, beautifully crafted jewellery art. Not all of us share our voice through jewellery, but it is important to understand that we all have one. And it is worth hearing.

Amina Ghali, Head Designer, Azza Fahmy Jewellery

I admire Amina for her dedication to her family-run business, which is a leading jewellery brand in Egypt. Azza Fahmy is one of the very few companies from the region that have grown internationally, and this happened thanks to a strong jewellery design aesthetic that Azza started, and now Amina continues. She is a strong but sweet woman who manages to create bold jewellery with a gentle touch. This combination is visible in the signature piece that Amina has chosen below.

Signature Piece: Eternal Union Earrings with Aquamarines

“For me, this pair is truly special—the shape, size, and colour of the aquamarine are exceptional. I love positive words; I genuinely believe they bring happiness, and that’s what I aimed to incorporate into the design. The word ‘Union’, written in our signature twisted wire, along with the Art Deco diamond setting, makes this a typical Azza Fahmy design.”

Michal Kadar, Founder & Creative Director, CADAR

I met Michal at the very beginning of her career, and I instantly fell in love with her jewellery. She takes a different and refreshing approach to gold, which means there’s nothing traditional about CADAR designs. Michal’s fashion background allows her to think differently, resulting in imaginative, future-proof jewels that make gold shine in a whole new way.

Signature Piece: B Home Vintage Tennis Necklace

"For me, home is more than a place—it's where we find strength, connection, and love. In my research on what home means to me, I kept returning to the idea of home as a community—not just a personal space but the bonds we build with others. The honeycomb, with its perfect hexagonal form, has always fascinated me—it's nature's way of creating something strong, protective, and enduring, not in isolation but through connection. I wanted to capture that feeling in the B Home Vintage Tennis Necklace, weaving hexagonal gold links and hand-cut diamonds to reflect light with every movement. Crafted in 18K gold and set with approximately 9.22 carats of hexagon-shaped white diamonds, this 16-inch choker is a tribute to the beauty of structure, the warmth of home, and the stories we carry —not just as individuals, but together."

Elisa Tozzi Piccini, CEO, Fratelli Piccini

Elisa was born into one of the leading jewellery families in Italy. It is impossible not to admire her depth of knowledge, her lifelong passion for jewellery, and her business acumen. She is an entrepreneur like me, so we instantly connected when we met in 2024. Another thing that is close to both our hearts is giving back; Elisa runs special charitable incentives as part of her commitment to the jewellery industry, including the Armando Piccini Award that’s given to a young artisan every two years.

Signature Piece: Starfish Earrings with Moonstones in 18k Gold

"The sea is life, sound, movement, colour, and reflections, and these elements can be perceived in a series of one-of-a-kind pieces. Among these are the Starfish earrings, my latest creation, which can be paired with a magnificent brooch that showcases the beauty of this wonderful marine animal. They are made of 18k gold and moonstones that magically express the reflections of the seabed. The starfish symbolizes energy, freedom, and hope, and in Chinese culture, it represents fortune and wealth. The legend of the starfish reflects the respect people have for exploring the unknown world and for the ocean. It is said that starfish have the ability to guide lost ships back to shore. The sea represents freedom and our connection to nature, a theme that is greatly cherished by Fratelli Piccini. Being a goldsmith allows me to live in another dimension, in a bubble, where the slowness of the craft marks the time and rhythm of production."

Margarita Prykhodko, Designer, Sybarite Jewellery

I admire the way Margarita has successfully blended many different professions into one, creating something totally new. She trained as an architect and now applies her engineering knowledge to jewellery design to create complex kinetic jewels, such as her twisting ballerina rings and pieces with hidden surprises. Margarita includes a touch of fairytale magic in her designs, and I am thankful for her making us dream and encouraging a sense of wonder, even after growing up!

Signature Piece: Fairies Earrings

"When I create jewellery, I always think about the woman it is meant for. When designing earrings, I consider the shape of the face to enhance its natural beauty. But every piece tells a story. The inspiration for these earrings was born in Paris. One morning, my daughter and I, wrapped in robes, sipped coffee on the balcony, greeting the first rays of sunlight with laughter and ease. By evening, we were dressed up, hair styled, embraced by the city's glow. This transformation — the way a woman can shift from a gentle morning nymph to an enigmatic queen of the night — endlessly inspires me. These earrings evoke the mystique of fairies, the duality of day and night, and the essence of womanhood. The sparkling briolette-cut diamonds resemble morning dew drops, fresh and pure, and by night, they glimmer like stars in the sky. Women paint their lives like a canvas — from a bathrobe to an evening gown, from the lightness of dawn to the opulence of night. And each piece of jewellery becomes part of this magical transformation, revealing all the facets of their beauty."

Anne-Marie Le Flanchec, Founder & Designer, Marceline Paris

Anne-Marie has a deep connection to spirituality, which I think adds a touch of mystery to her jewels. They are super cool and trendy pieces by design, but they also have a special meaning to encourage a connection to our deeper selves and the world around us. Each design element has a purpose, either to make people go ‘wow’ or to remind us of something fundamental and important in life.

Signature Piece: Akasha Bangle with Diamond Pavé

“I love this bangle because it is a real statement. It also makes a gentle sound when you wear it, because of its moving parts. It’s different, very unique, and so that makes me so proud of the design. I have actually created a few versions of the Akasha bangle, and now I feel it has a good balance in terms of volume that is appropriate for our times. This collection evokes the caring, gentle and guiding voice within, revealing the true nature of the mind. This voice is wise, benevolent, loving and nurturing, which I hope every woman can be connected to and trust.

Sabine Roemer, Founder & Designer, Sabine Roemer

Sabine has this incredible ability to not only design jewels but to bring them to life. She creates all her pieces by hand, from wax carving to casting, making her one of only a handful of women who make high jewellery themselves. Her designs are distinctive and varied, reflecting the different personalities of her clients and showcasing her adaptability as a jeweller.

Signature Piece: Blossoming Heart Superwoman Ring

"I love this ring because it's a powerful symbol of the strength, resilience, and limitless potential that every woman carries within her. The idea behind these powerful Superwoman rings stems from a deep conviction in the inherent strength within every woman. These rings are not just accessories; they are an embodiment of empowerment. A celebration of the remarkable capabilities that women possess. Just as each stone symbolizes different facets of feminine strength, these rings are a testament to the diverse and boundless abilities that make every woman a true superhero in her own right."

Simone Ng, Executive Creative Director, Simone Jewels

Simone blends strength, boldness and femininity, which is harder than you might think. She is a confident businesswoman, but her designs reflect her sweet and artistic side. She develops complex designs that tell stories, often related to different cultures. I always keep an eye on her collections as I feel they can help me ‘travel the world’ through jewellery and see the beauty beyond the boundaries of my home life in Paris.

Signature Piece: 159-Carat Topaz Necklace

"Jewellery, to me, has always been more than just an ornament—it is a storyteller, a bridge between history, emotion, and artistry. Among all my creations, there is one recent piece that speaks to me in a way no other does: a necklace featuring a breathtaking 159-carat unheated topaz set with diamonds and chalcedony. This piece holds deep personal significance because it embodies everything I love about jewellery—meaning, craftsmanship, and the beauty of transformation. It is part of my Romance Du Art Nouveau: Hokusai collection, inspired by one of the most celebrated artworks in history, The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai. Beyond its beauty, this necklace is special because it reflects a philosophy I deeply connect with—the balance between chaos and grace, strength and fluidity. This necklace is more than just a signature piece; it is a reflection of who I am—someone who finds beauty in history, emotion in craftsmanship, and meaning in every detail."

Liza Borzaya, Founder & Creative Director, Liza Borzaya High Jewellery

I have known Liza since the beginning of her career when she was a fresh designer with big dreams. Now, she is the leading female jeweller in Russia, who conquered the hearts of many thanks to her obsession with quality and the playfulness of her designs. Of course, apart from her whimsical aesthetic, like pendants that open with a key, tattoo-inspired pieces or jewellery candies, she makes more traditional and timeless jewels that are often one-of-a-kind. These are destined for the private collections of high jewellery aficionados worldwide.

Signature Piece: Amber Room bracelet with Emerald

“Amber has a reputation for being a very unfashionable stone, so for a long time, no one has done anything interesting with it. I wanted to change this because it is a traditional Russian stone with a long history, but I got distracted by other collections and put it on the backburner. Then, by chance, amber and emeralds appeared on my desk next to each other and a collection immediately formed in my head. I was afraid that it was too bold – expensive emerald and unfashionable amber. But when I suggested it to a client, she fell in love and immediately ordered a ring. That’s how the Amber Room collection began. Amber is a difficult material; it took about a year to learn how to work with it. It is very fragile; to get the necessary roundness, especially in the claws holding the emerald, more than one beautiful piece of amber had to be ground down. Then, when jewellers tried to fix the emerald into a solid structure, the amber split more than once! That is, until a piece with almost no internal inclusions was found, to avoid any potential cracks. The result was well worth all the effort! Now, we mix amber with emeralds and tourmalines.”

So, which of the pieces shown above speak to you? It's a lovely reminder that jewellery can cross cultures and geographic boundaries… perhaps you find yourself drawn to an Egyptian signature style from the comfort of your home in Australia, or a German design vibe from your base in Thailand? Whatever the case may be, we believe that jewellery is a language that unites women, and that's something to celebrate for International Women's Day 2025.
