The last time I saw Elizabeth Gage in person was in 2023, when I sat down with the legendary jewellery artist in London to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her eponymous brand. She has always been such a big presence in the British design scene that I had very little knowledge of her American roots and her childhood memories in New York City. I only discovered this facet of her past recently, when the brand’s managing director, Joanne Rees, told me about a special private showcase that’s due to take place in the Big Apple from November 5-7, 2025. Over these three days, the brand will launch its latest New York Collection, including signature rings set with vibrant coloured gemstones that I had great fun trying on! Here’s a little sneak peek of what we can expect…

I have never kept it a secret that I am particularly fond of Elizabeth Gage, both the MBE recipient herself and the brand she established more than 60 years ago. She’s credited as one of the most iconic British jewellers of the 1960s, developing a signature style that blends chunky gemstone cabochons with historic-looking foxtail chains, sculpted gold, and genuine antiques. Back in 2023, as she celebrated her 60th year as a professional jeweller, I visited the artist in Belgravia, London, to discuss what inspires her (including her penchant for parrots) and her longevity as an artist. Although she no longer creates at the bench, Elizabeth has nurtured a team that enacts her vision seamlessly and without sacrificing any of her principles. Today, she continues to nurture her business on a day-to-day basis alongside Joanne Rees, who has been Managing Director of the brand for the last eleven years. Together, they are carrying on the legacy for future generations to enjoy.

During my most recent visit to see the brand at Estelle Manor in Witney, Oxfordshire, in September, I had a chance to speak with Joanne in more detail about future plans. It turns out, while I was photographing pieces from the Cotswold Collection in a Grade II listed English mansion, there were plans underway for a trip across the Atlantic to New York. The brand will host a private showcase in the Reading Room at The Whitby Hotel on West 56th Street from November 5 -7, 2025, making this its first visit to the urban metropolis since 2019.

Prior to this moment, I had never imagined the brand in an American context. However, Elizabeth has been doing shows in New York since the 1980s and has personal connections to the city. She can fondly remember spending a lot of her early childhood with her American grandmother, the artist Thalia Malcolm, so New York holds a genuinely special place in her heart. “We always wanted to return to New York, but the timing was never quite right,” Joanne told me. “We made sure that this year we wouldn’t let anything get in our way.” Digging a little deeper, a lot of Elizabeth’s early success was in the United States, so she has spent more than 40 years travelling to New York in late October and early November to see her existing clients and meet new ones.

With only having a showroom in London, it gives us an opportunity to show our many American clients the pieces in person. We always create a New York Collection for these visits, so clients who come to the show get to see them before anyone else. – Elizabeth Gage

This year’s New York Collection includes 25 pieces that took around three months to bring to fruition. Right now, they’re known only to the Elizabeth Gage team and will only be revealed on the first day of the showcase. That being said, I have been given a sneak peek of a handful of designs that perfectly capture the spirit of the brand, including a showstopping, octagon-shaped rubellite, ruby and amethyst cocktail ring set in 18k yellow gold. “The rich pink hue of the rubellite is beautifully offset by a bold twisted wire surround, creating a striking focal point,” Joanne says. Further highlights include a stylish pair of Molten Gold earrings, designed with rippling textures that reflect the light, and a fabulous cushion-shaped yellow beryl cabochon Charlemagne ring accented with faceted tanzanites and polished gold beads.

If you are interested in discovering the rest, you’re going to have to visit New York in November! I am told that the brand will be returning to Palm Beach, Florida, in February 2026, and has plans to travel to Houston, Texas, so this is only the start of its American adventures. Fortunately for those of us across the pond, it is also planning to host more private shows in the UK. I hope you get the chance to attend, as these are jewels that really deserve to be seen in person.
