Greenery: The colour of 2017 by Pantone

February 1, 2017

2017 arrived, and Pantone, an American organization and a recognised expert in the field of colour reproduction, announced its new colour of the year. According to its experts, the colour most popular in design, fashion and other products this year will be Greenery – a fresh green corresponding to palette number 15-0343.

The Pantone Institute of Colours suggests our world of fast information makes people experience high levels of stress regularly. However, the more people become consumed in the demands of modern life, the more we seek a sense of oneness with nature. Therefore, Greenery symbolises our renewal, a coming back to basics. Of couse, not all brands will follow this trend, but I’m certain that in 2017 we’ll be seeing more jewellery with green stones: emerald, demantoid, peridot, tourmaline, tsavorite, serpentine, jade, beryl and some others. They can be combined just as well with gold – as in the de Grisogono Melody of Colour ring – as with platinum – as in the Tiffany&Co tassel earrings with beads of tsavorite, not to mention yellow gold, as in the Rococo ring with intricate shank from Fabergé.

It is also interesting when a piece of jewellery combines green stones with other gemstones. One of the most common usages is peridot, tourmaline or tsavorite in combination with colourless diamonds, as with Dior’s Milieu du Siècle earrings which blend emeralds and tsavorites or Boucheron’s Joy ring with peridot faceted in a “sugar-loaf” cut. Italian jewellery house Bvlgari has a love of colour reflected in each of its pieces. So creating the Magnificent Inspirations necklace, Lucia Silvestri combined pink tourmaline, green peridots and white mother-of-pearl in a bold, rich, colourful ensemble. It’s about time to get out your favourite green stones from your jewellery box: wearing them is fun and you’ll be on trend.
