Earlier this year, the ‘100 Carats: Icons of the Gem World’ exhibition journeyed from Los Angeles to London’s Treasure House Fair to bring its blend of mineral magic to European audiences. The entire collection has been curated by celebrated Beverly Hills jeweller Robert Procop, who has amassed some once-in-a-lifetime treasures that I was privileged to see at The Treasure House Fair. Even now, I find my mind drifting to the 241-carat Crown of Colombia or the 108-carat Blue Star aquamarine! Let me take you behind the scenes of this important suite of centennial gems…

The ‘100 Carats’ story began officially in December 2023, when the exhibition first opened at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. However, I suppose you could say that the origins of the exhibition actually go much further back, millions of years into the past, to the creation and composition of the minerals themselves.
